The 'SmartFold' SCR3500 mini USB reader is a fully ISO7816 compliant contact smart card reader which is perfectly suitable for a wide range of application areas for government, enterprise and home use. The CAC card is still not recognized in Keychain Access (and red light is not active on reader). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Was working a few weeks ago without issue. Try installing the latest Windows 8 drivers for CAC reader and check. I would suggest you to update the CAC Reader drivers from the Manufacturer’s website and check. If the CAC Reader drivers are not compatible with Windows 8 Operating System, I would suggest you to try installing it in compatibility mode and check.

1. Information

Some IOGear CAC readers have a firmware version that will not work on a Mac (AU9540), this page will show you how to change it to AU9520, which will work on your Mac using a program called EepromMP.

2. This procedure must be completed using a Windows computer (or Bootcamped Mac), it will not work using a virtual version of Windows (i.e. Parallels, VMware, or Virtual Box)

2.1 Install the AU9540_V1.7.2.0 driver (from the CD in the box), then plug in the GSR202, GSR202V, or GSR203 to your Windows computer.You may also download it from: http://www.iogear.com/support/dm/driver/GSR202

2.2 Double click EepromMP.exe found at: http://militarycac.com/CACDrivers/iogear/AU9540_EEPROM.zipAU9540 reader will look like Figure 1. Click the Setting button (DO NOT insert your CAC in the reader).

2.3 Match your screen to the information below completely, and then click OK to go back to the main page. (Figure 2)

2.4 Click Write Eeprom to program the external EEPROM. (Figure 3)

2.5 When write Eeprom is finished, a SUCCESS message will be displayed (Figure 4)

(DO NOT insert your CAC). After the task is finished, click Cancel to quit the program

2.6 Unplug the reader, and then plug it back into your computer (very important step)!

2.7 You are finished.Try your CAC reader on your Mac now.

Newer computers ship with card readers built in, but older computers will need a memory card reader to transfer files with the card. For the computer to properly interact with the card reader, you may have to install a specific driver.

Step 1

Download the proper driver from the Sakar website (see Resources). Select your card reader and select “Download Driver.” Save the file to your desktop.

Step 2

Double-click the downloaded executable file (“cardreader.exe”) to launch the installer. Make sure the card reader is not connected to the computer before starting.

Step 3

Follow the onscreen instructions. If you are prompted to connect the card reader during installation, do so.
Restart the computer after the installation completes. Connect the card reader and your computer will now be able to access the memory card within the card reader and read/write to it.
